Restaurants in Ciutadella

Ciutadella’s picturesque harbour, consisting of a small, natural inlet that acts as a marina, is far smaller than Port Mahon. However, the waterfront area is similar to Mahon in that it is vibrant and full of restaurants and bars.

As the hub of Ciutadella’s entertainment scene by night, the marina is home to a plethora of inviting cafés and fine eateries including a number of excellent seafood restaurants. Several interesting harbour restaurants have been built directly into the seaside cliffs, offering atmospheric dining to complement the cuisine.

Owing to its waterfront location, Ciutadella has access to wonderfully fresh fish and lobster, and most of the marina restaurants stock the fishermen’s catch of the day directly off the boat. Look out for the Menorcan speciality of tasty parcels of stuffed squid as well as caldereta de llangosta, a slowly simmered lobster casserole. Alternatively, try one of Ciutadella’s many tapas bars, where you can choose from a wide array of bite-sized snacks, traditionally served with drinks.

Ciutadella’s old quarter is one of the city’s most beguiling areas, steeped in history and permeated with beautiful Spanish and Moorish architecture. The ancient streets are peppered with quaint shops, cafés, bars and restaurants interspersed with magnificent stone buildings in pale hues of ochre and rose. There are plenty of good dining options here including a good selection of authentic Menorca restaurants, fusion cafés and trendy tapas bars. Foreigners missing the taste of home cooking have no cause for concern in Ciutadella – the city encompasses numerous eateries serving a good selection of international dishes.
