Palma

Palma is the cultural and historical capital of the Balearic Islands and attracts a huge number of visitors to its wonderful array of buildings, interesting museums and galleries, excellent shopping, bustling nightlife and popular nearby beach resorts. With a lovely harbour, beautiful skyline and well ordered streets, the city is easy to tour on foot.

Palma has a very special ambience and the main sights are all grouped together at the heart of the city near the picturesque harbour. The great Gothic cathedral and Almudaina Palace stand opposite each other and are the main tourist highlights, while the nearby Arab Baths take you farther back in time and the numerous museums are sure to entice history buffs.

The proximity of the famed beach resorts of the southwest on Palma Bay is also a draw for those visiting Palma and there are some exclusive seaside havens such as nearby Illetas, with its upmarket accommodation and nearby quality golf courses.

Palma is easy to reach, being only 20 minutes by taxi or shuttle from the airport. Getting around the city, with its excellent public transport and bus networks, is also straightforward.

Palma is best visited out of the high season, when it becomes crowded and accommodation prices rise. Visiting the city in the spring is possibly the best time as the weather is cooler and fresher, and there are more bargains on offer.
