C’an Picafort
Located in the northeast of Majorca in the beautiful Alcudia Bay, C'an Picafort is the main resort of the Santa Margalida municipality and appeals to those who prefer a fast paced beach holiday in spectacular surroundings. Originally a fishing village, C’an Picafort is now loaded with hotels and caters heavily for German tourists, complete with German orientated bars and restaurants.
The best beach is found in the Baulo district to the east of the resort and appeals to a universal crowd, with its crystal clear waters and great bathing, plus an attractive car free promenade with numerous bars and restaurants that runs from the beach to the marina. Families with kids should exercise caution when visiting the nearby nature reserve as it encompasses a stagnant pool.
Lying south of C’an Picafort is the town of Santa Margalida, the well known archaeological capital of Majorca, with over 150 sites spread throughout the municipality. Most of the remains are pre-Roman, while the highlight, Son Real Necropolis, dates back to Phoenician times.
C’an Picafort is not big on alternative attractions, with its many bars and restaurants along the promenade providing the mainstream of entertainment, as well as two local discos. Hotel based activities and entertainment appealing to the international visitors who come to C’an Picafort, are popular.
If you tire of the beach scene in C’an Picafort, pleasure trips leave from the harbour at the western edge of the resort throughout the day, while Alcudia is just to the north and shares the same bay as C’an Picafort, but with better views and facilities.
