Golf in Majorca

Majorca, with its abundance of superb courses, perfect weather, outstanding views and affordable accommodation options, can be referred to as the golfing mecca of the Mediterranean. The best time to play golf in Majorca is in the shoulder season months, namely May, June, September and October, when the bulk of tourists haven’t arrived or have already gone home and fairway prices are at their lowest.

There are more than a dozen top quality golf courses in Majorca, most of which are 18 hole, par-72 courses and there are also a few nine-hole, 35 to 36 par clubs. The majority of courses lie on Majorca’s flatter reaches of land around Palma and the eastern side of the island, but wherever you decide to stay, there will always be a golf course fairly close to your resort.

When golfing in Majorca, clubs and trolleys can be hired at most courses for a reasonable price; however, you may decide to take your own set of clubs, which can be checked-in along with your other baggage on your flight. With regard to golf etiquette in Majorca, shorts can be worn along with proper golf shoes, but don’t turn up wearing your swimming costume.

The renowned Son Vida Club de Golf, which is served by the Son Vida and the Arabella Golf Hotel, offers some of the best golf in Majorca and guests are welcome. Located about 15 minutes to the east of Palma, Son Vida is an 18 hole course and green fees are in the region of €75.

Many people prefer to book a golfing package holiday, where flights, accommodation, transfers and green fees are included, via the internet or through a travel agency. Good discounts for groups are always available. If you are already in Majorca and fancy a round, telephoning the club and making a reservation in advance is recommended. Green fees usually range from €55 to €90, depending on the location, popularity and services of the club.
