Nightlife & Bars – Ibiza Town

Ibiza Town has one of the liveliest, hippest nightlife scenes on the island, so when it comes to bars and clubs, visitors to the town are spoilt for choice.

With club doors not opening until midnight, and even then not getting into full swing until about 02:00, bars are the place to go and be seen for unbeatable pre-party warm-ups.

The winding narrow streets of the old town are literally bursting with bars and this is where most of the action is. The evening atmosphere here is electric as people ease themselves into the night ahead and the street side seating and outdoor terraces quickly overflow with tanned holidaymakers ready for some nighttime revelry.

With crowds spilling into the streets, the old quarter is a great place to watch and admire passers by. There are some curious sights to behold as extrovert clubbers with daring outfits, transvestites, and club promoters all swing into action. Ibiza Town also has a thriving gay scene, the heart of which lies along the Calle de la Virgin in the old quarter, where there are a number of lively gay bars.

The harbour boasts a slightly more sophisticated feel to it with bars that afford good views lining the cobbled street lanes. Here you can sit outside and enjoy some top guest DJs and if you’re lucky enough you may even spot a celebrity or two.

Apart from bars, Ibiza Town offers four of the island’s mega-clubs; Space, legendary for its out of hours parties; the glamorous El Divino, famous for its Hed Kandi nights; Pacha, known for attracting beautiful people; and one of the island’s newest clubs, Somny. Most of these clubs are within ten minutes walk from the port area and for those who are too lazy or drunk to walk, there is a boat that goes from Ibiza Town’s harbour directly to El Divino’s front entrance!

Take note of happy hours that are usually advertised on flyers or boards outside various establishments. If you are interested in more than one pre-party drink then this is a great way to save money; overall, drinks can be on the pricey side - be prepared to pay up to €6 for a bottle of beer.

Inside the clubs, prices are raised even higher, so it’s worth having a few before you go. Some of the bigger clubs promote warm-up parties in designated bars, good for eyeing up your catch of the night early and for getting an entry discount into the club.
