Tours of Ibiza
There are several places of interest on the island that are worth visiting during your stay. The best way to see Ibiza is by hire car, allowing you the freedom to go where the mood takes you on your tour of Ibiza. Those who don’t have a hire car may find that taking one of the island’s day tours of Ibiza is an excellent and easy way of seeing the island’s highlights.
With the island only being 45kms long and 25kms wide, there is no need for lengthy overnight trips to see the main sights. It is possible to see most of what the island has to offer in day trips or half-day trips.
One recommended road route around the east and northeast of the island is to drive from Santa Eulalia to Ibiza Town, Santa Eulalia to San Carlos, San Carlos to Aguas Blancas, Aguas Blancas to Cala San Vincente, Cala San Vincente to San Juan and San Miguel, and from San Miguel to Santa Gertrudis. This route covers some of Ibiza’s beautiful green and peaceful countryside, fantastic beaches and coastline, and picturesque churches and villages.
A popular northern route is to drive by car from San Antonio to San Rafael, San Rafael to Santa Gertrudis, San Miguel to San Mateu, San Mateu to Santa Ines, and San Mateu to Cala Salada. This trip covers some great inland and coastal scenery, quaint villages, and pottery-making areas.
Other sights not to be missed on the island include the Hippy Markets in both Es Cana (on Wednesdays) and San Carlos (on Saturdays), the salt fields at Las Salinas that have been in use for over 2,000 years, and the C’an Marça Caves where you can view some impressive stalagmites and stalactites and enjoy one of the daily music and light shows. Tour companies in the bigger towns can arrange trips to the main sights and there are also walking trips available.
Another way to see the island is to take a scenic tour on a road train. Three of these services run, one from San Antonio, one from Santa Eulalia, and the other covering various excursions around the northern part of the island. The two-hour trips are ideal for family excursions, taking passengers into the countryside where they can enjoy beautiful landscapes and panoramic views of the island.
Some of the road train trips offered incorporate museums, cultural sights, buildings of architectural and historical interest, plantations, and remote beaches. These trips are an easy and enjoyable way of seeing some of the real Ibiza away from the crowds; however, they are mainly orientated toward families with children.
