San Antonio

San Antonio is well known as the dance capital of the island and each season it attracts thousands of fun-seeking visitors who come here for a week of partying.

The second largest town after Ibiza Town, ‘San An’, as it is affectionately known, underwent huge development during the 90s when tourists flooded into the town, attracted by its reputation as a world party capital.

Music and super-clubs have firmly placed San Antonio as a favourite destination among world-class DJs and clubbers alike. Nowadays, many consider San Antonio to have had its day; however, that does nothing to deter the hordes of package holiday visitors arriving at its shores every week.

The beach at San Antonio isn’t one of the island’s most impressive; however, there’s a pleasant promenade along the waterfront, the waters are shallow and the sand is clean. The beach tends to fill up quickly, so it’s worth making the trip to one of the beautiful beaches nearby instead; Cala Conta and Cala Bassa are two of the most popular.

Water sports are one of the main forms of daytime entertainment along the beach and include windsurfing and sailing. On the other side of the bay is Calo des Moro, otherwise known as Sunset Strip, a popular place to watch the sunset and dance into the early hours.

San Antonio has excellent tourist infrastructure and facilities. There is an abundance of guesthouses and hotels, restaurants and bars, and some of the best nightclubs on the island are located here. The resort is family friendly; however, it’s advisable for families to visit during the less busy months of the summer when the beaches and streets aren’t so crowded.

During the peak season, particularly in July and August, the resort can become uncomfortably crowded with large groups of young people looking for the holiday experience of a lifetime. Drinking, dancing, and romance seem to be top priorities among many of the holidaymakers, so if this is not your idea of a break away, San Antonio is best avoided altogether during this period.

Getting about in San Antonio is easy and most of the town is accessible on foot. Other nearby beaches can be reached by frequent ferry services and there are also taxis and buses available for longer journeys.

During the summer months a disco bus runs between San Antonio and the super-clubs of Privilege and Amnesia from 00:00 until 06:00, so that you can get there and back with minimum fuss and confusion.

An explosion of culinary delights are on offer in San Antonio, including traditional Spanish fare, international dishes, and fast food and delivery services for those who are too tired from the night before to dine out.

Staying in the heart of San Antonio can have both its advantages and disadvantages; you are right on the middle of all the action, however, late night revellers can be rather loud, as can the bottle collections that take place in the early hours of the morning.
