Es Canar

Less than 10 minutes drive from Santa Eulalia, Es Canar is a beautiful and popular resort on the east coast of Ibiza.

With its relaxed atmosphere, it is no surprise that this resort attracts thousands of tourists each year and it is particularly popular among British visitors. The resort boasts a long crescent-shaped beach with shallow waters that are suitable for children, and the smooth, white sand is ideal for sandcastle building.

There is some natural shade provided towards the back of the beach by a scattering of pine trees; however, if you want to sit directly on the beach during the midday sun, it is advisable to rent a sunshade or risk looking like a lobster for the length of your holiday.

The resort consists of the beach, a small fishing harbour, and the village that surrounds the village square. Despite being a relatively new resort, it has good facilities and it is equipped with an ATM, shops, Internet cafés, and a good selection of accommodation and restaurants.

One of the resort’s biggest attractions is the Hippy Market held at nearby Punta Arabi every Wednesday during the summer months. Here you can buy an assortment of handmade crafts, jewellery and clothes. The market attracts people from all over the island and is definitely worth a look.

Despite being quieter than some of the busier beaches known for their late night partying, this resort certainly gets going in the summer months. Nightlife consists of several bars and a few nightclubs where you can dance until the early hours. Dedicated clubbers can make the short trip to Santa Eulalia to enjoy some of the island’s bigger venues.

Visitors are recommended to take a walk along the scenic coastal track that leads to Santa Eulalia or they can try walking in the opposite direction to Cala San Vicente, another picturesque beach resort. Both directions lead you past several pretty coves and small beaches where you can stop and enjoy a swim or a bite to eat.

Those who don’t want to walk can use the ferry service that travels between the beaches. There are also regular bus services that run between Es Canar and Santa Eulalia.

Although this is a quiet beach, during the summer months it can get crowded and accommodation can be difficult to find. If you want to come during a less populated period, it is best to avoid the peak season from June to September.

The famous Hippy Market at Punta Arabi in Es Cana is held every Wednesday from 10.00 to 19.00 during the months of May through to October should not be missed.

The hotels that line Es Canar’s stunning beach tend to fill up during July and August. If you are planning to stay here during the high season, it is essential you book in advance.

There are no banks in Es Canar, only money exchange facilities and one ATM, so be sure to take enough cash with you so that you can enjoy some of the resort’s fine dining.

Coach trips from Es Canar to some of the island’s mega-clubs run twice a week. For a price that includes entry ticket into the club, the coach will conveniently take you there and back.
