Nightlife and bars in Formentera
Formentera doesn’t come close in rivaling the nightlife and bars of its wild neighbour to the north, Ibiza. However, visitors to Formentera do not come for the nightlife, they primarily come for the empty beaches and relaxed atmosphere, anxious to escape the commercialism of Ibiza. Indeed, many come to Formentera to recover from the excesses of the night before.
However, by no means does Formentera turn off the lights at 20:00 and fall silent. Nightlife and bars in Formentera’s main resort of Es Pujols are lively, as is the colourful night market. Many of these bars stay open until the late hours of the morning. If you’re out for a big night then you won’t be disappointed in Es Pujols, with many visitors seen struggling back to their hotels at sunrise. Cocktail bars are also popular and the staff boast lively and friendly personalities.
Outside Es Pujols nightlife and bar options thin out considerably. Both Sant Ferran and La Savina are home to several popular bars but have nowhere near the choice of Es Pujols. Beach bars are a popular way to spend an evening, with many visitors flocking to Es Arenals and Cala Sahona for the sunset, relaxed atmosphere and ambient music.
A late night ferry runs two nights a week from Formentera to Ibiza and back, so it is possible to enjoy a night out in Ibiza before returning to the relative quiet of Formentera.
Overall, Formentera is not the party island of Ibiza ’s standing, but the nightlife and bars are there if you want them. Otherwise, it’s just as easy to avoid them if that’s your reason for coming to Formentera in the first place.
