Es Pujols
Es Pujols is Formentera’s primary and only tourist resort. If you book a package holiday to Formentera, chances are you’ll be staying at one of the large hotels along the beach here as tour operators tend to snap up most of the rooms during the peak of summer, when the island receives most of its visitors.
If you’re after peace and tranquillity, then you may be better off choosing to stay elsewhere on the island as Es Pujols is a typical island resort that can get crowded. However, for many visitors Es Pujols is an idyllic resort offering stunning white sand beaches and all the tourist facilities and conveniences you could hope for including shops and supermarkets, banks and money exchangers, bike rentals, restaurants, bars, street markets and plenty of hotels and self catered apartments.
Unlike more remote beaches on the island, the main beach here is off limits to nude bathers, given the large numbers of tourists and family holidaymakers. Although busy during the summer, the beach is still a spectacular sight of pure white sand, crystal clear waters and protected dunes backed by pine forests. There are sun beds and food and drink stands in abundance, ensuring you never have to walk far for refreshments.
A number of hotels and apartments line the foreshore, with the best rooms boasting views of the beach and the blue waters beyond, while cheaper places can be found farther back from the waterfront. The town is also home to the highest concentration of restaurants and bars on the island, including several nightclubs, although the nightlife doesn’t come close to rivaling that of Ibiza. Visitors to Formentera mostly come to escape the hectic night scene of its neighbour.
Es Pujols is popular among families and package holiday tourists who are unwilling to sacrifice conveniences while still looking for a relaxed island holiday. For those holidaymakers who like to have all the amenities that are necessary for a smooth and enjoyable holiday close at hand, Es Pujols is a great destination.
Lazing around on the beach is the main activity here, although Es Pujols is also a base for several water sports outfits offering boat tours around the island as well as sailing lessons, waterskiing, snorkeling, scuba diving, parasailing and windsurfing.
